RAPHAEL VARGAS

Raphael Vargas, a Brazilian artist based in Umeå, primarily works with photography and moving image media, but also explores various other artistic languages. He explores themes of time-space dimensions, existential questions, mental health, and spirituality.

 

For «Reverbing Ontologies — on margins,» Vargas presents a performance incorporating cultural elements and traditions from his place of origin, a place of privilege that dissolves when he decides to live an immigrant life on the margins. With different elements, the artist invites the public to get to know and enjoy the diversity of cultural manifestations that are embodied in a rhythmic performance of his homeplace, and also to reflect on the history and colonization, placing at the center of discussion the margins that were always neglected, forgotten, and erased.
